Carla's First Time on Snowshoes

For your winter entertainment, my friend Richard made a video of my snowshoes, and yes there is a picture of the new chainsaw. If you like hot rods and banjo music, you can see more of Richard's videos by clicking right here.
Here are some pictures I took this morning when I went walking in my woods. That would be my third time on snowshoes for those of you keeping track ;o)
It was this cold when I stepped out the door.
I spotted two of these nests on my walk, made of birch bark and spiderweb. They belong to a vireo of some kind. I need to learn more about these birds. These are summer's secrets, revealed in winter.
I have a tiny brook on the property; here it runs under an old stone wall. When the woods are frozen solid, you can hear the music of this brook running underneath it all.
Looks like this tree fell down just before or early in the last storm, judging by the amount of snow on it. I am going to take the top off for a Christmas Tree, perhaps. The tracks to the right are deer tracks. There are deer tracks all over the woods. When I walk in the woods I usually follow deer trails. And they usually follow me.

I am so impressed with the snow shoes and the chainsaw. Wow. What nice toys you have, Carla. I think I'll stay on your good side … thanks for sharing this with us.
thank you for the nice glimpse of your world
Too talented, even walking backwards with snowshoes. :)
Thanks, y'all. Maine is splendid in winter, but you gotta have the right tools, and friends. Janine, should I bring my snowshoes with me to Idaho? I don' t think they;ll let me carry my chain saw on the plane, even though it is electric and won't go w/o AC current.
John, I don't actually use the chainsaw on men, but you do want to stay on my good side. Remember biscuits!
At the moment snowshoes are a good choice. We have them as well, so we could all go for a walk. And sweet Carla, I don't know how experienced you are with power tools, and since we like your face the way it is now, please note that chainsaws can kick back when hitting a knot in the wood and cut off the operator's nose or severely dent the forehead. (This happened to a friend of mine.) It is a good idea to get in the habit of positioning one's head to the side of the saw's tragectory. Have fun with your new toy. Can we expect that by next spring you will be making totem poles?
THanks for the warning, and advice, Janine. I think instinctively I do that, I stay clear, and have only cut small pieces of wood. I use it strictly for firewood, I don't think I'll be making sculpture, but who knows? I have a little pruner saw I used to use, this one is safer cause it is bigger, heavier, and cuts things more easily.
I'd love to take a snowy walk in Idaho. You are two hours from my granddaughter!
I am so happy to be here Carla. funny, funny. I love your snow shoes. I have been wanting to get some foreeever. jen
Great shots Carla . . . What make is that chainsaw?
14 inch Sears Craftsman, electric. Richard gave it to me, it belonged to his daddy.
I've used many chainsaws . . . One was electric, and I had to continually bush the oil button to lubricate the chain . . . It did the job!
I think this one is automatic, I just pour the oil in the reservoir. What do you cut with you chainsaw? Firewood, pruning, professional arborist? or just taking care of your place.
I've cut down trees at the summer place . . . Some of it goes to firewood . . .
