Stalking the Wild Vole in Maine

Posted on Jan 11th, 2009 by Carla : peace artist Carla
This movie is dedicated to Kathy (Centria) in Northern Michigan, who is also going outside everyday and writing about it. Kathy I hope you don't mind, being on you tube, I'll ask forgiveness rather than permission.

Tracking wildlife in snow - Vole

It is four minutes and 19 seconds of nothing much, but I am having fun!

Oh Carla, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry! This is amazing. SIMPLY AMAZING!! I am going through a mini-crisis with my new blog because some days (most days) it seems I can’t find anything “big” enough to write about. And here you are making vole trails seem like the most interesting things. I’m still looking for the eagle or bear or deer trails that will entertain or titilate the reader….when somehow it has to be the vole trails, what’s actually there, that is highlighted. Because perhaps part of what Nature teaches is to see the small things. Part of me was already despairing about how to write another interesting blog yet again today.

This is such a spiritual lesson for me, and a humbling one too! You, my dear, have given me many teachings today. By the way, is there anyway to take this and embed it in my other blog? Yes? No? I am headed over to my status to take your name in vain now!!

Love you, Carla, vole tracker extraordinnaire!

Always magic in the woods. 15 years, day night all seasons. Never a dull walk.
I heard an aborigine elder speaking on the radio. He was visiting the
U. S. and talked at length about our wildlife. He was observing
chipmunks! I love chipmunks, but they are so common and suburban! and
wild! So I have new respect for my voles, especially since I don’t care
what they do to the apple trees. They can be pests in an orchard. Seems
to be a lot of them around, and I haven’t heard many owls this winter,
or last fall. A correlation?

Thanks for watching and visiting for a while, everybody.

Never had a thing with voles, butnow Isee how easily that can change!

I had a great laugh to say the least.

And yes, the magic is all around us , all it takes is to pay attention.

Thanks that was great.

Thank you all for enjoying the movie. Voles keep the owls and coyotes
fed, very important niche they fill. I am looking for the trail that
ends in a brush of wing tips, that says this vole became owl!
